What each test measures
IELTS reports band scores 0–9 for visa and university admission. CEFR reports A1–C2 levels for course placement, school programmes, and general proficiency tracking.
Who requires IELTS?
Universities, immigration authorities, and professional registration bodies typically specify IELTS (or equivalent band-score tests). Check your target institution's exact requirement.
Who uses CEFR?
Language schools, secondary schools, and employers in Europe and Central Asia often use CEFR for placement and internal progress. CEFR alone is rarely accepted for UK/Australia visas.
Use both in your preparation journey
