CEFR B2 is often compared to IELTS band 5.5–6.5. IELTS 6.5 specifically is a common university threshold — slightly above typical B2 midpoint.

Language schools use CEFR for placement and progression. Universities and immigration usually require IELTS or equivalent band scores.
