IELTS Reading: True, False, Not Given
The question type that confuses every candidate — learn the logic once, practise until automatic.
TRUE means the statement is confirmed
The passage explicitly supports the statement, often via paraphrase. Every key idea in the statement must be present — partial match is not TRUE.
FALSE means the passage contradicts
The passage says the opposite or incompatible fact. If the passage says 'most' and the statement says 'all', that is FALSE when 'all' is not supported.
NOT GIVEN means no information
You cannot prove TRUE or FALSE from the passage alone. Do not use outside knowledge — if the text doesn't address it, it's NOT GIVEN.
Order usually follows the passage
TFNG questions typically appear in paragraph order. Use that to narrow where to re-read instead of scanning the entire passage again.
