Every country and university differs — verify your exact requirement early.
United Kingdom
Most undergraduate courses require 6.0–6.5 overall (no band below 5.5–6.0). Russell Group universities often require 6.5–7.0. Some courses (law, medicine) require 7.0+.
Australia and Canada
Australia: typically 6.0–6.5 overall for undergrad; 6.5–7.0 for postgraduate. Canada: varies by institution — 6.0–6.5 is common; check per-skill minimums.
USA and Europe
USA: many universities accept IELTS 6.0–7.0 as TOEFL alternative. Europe: English-taught programmes often require 6.0–6.5; some accept CEFR B2 instead.
Build a mock timeline backward from deadlines
