Common IELTS Writing mistakes
Off-topic responses and missing overviews cap scores even with good grammar.
Task 2: partial answer
If the question asks for causes AND solutions, both must appear. Answering only half caps Task Response regardless of vocabulary quality.
Task 1: no overview
Missing an overview limits Task Achievement to band 5–6 for Academic reports. Always write one after the introduction.
Under 250 words on Task 2

Memorized templates
Examiners recognize stock phrases ('In this day and age'). Templates hurt Lexical Resource scores when they don't fit the specific question.
