Common IELTS Listening mistakes

Numbers, homophones, and lost focus — the errors that drop bands fastest.

Confusing 15 and 50

Teen numbers and '-ty' numbers sound similar under stress. Write the numeral quickly, then confirm context — was it a age, price, or quantity?

Ignoring the word limit

If the limit is TWO WORDS and you write three, the answer is wrong even if it contains the correct words. Train with strict limits in practice mocks.

Leaving blanks

Never leave an answer blank — guess from context. Listening does not penalize wrong answers, only blanks guarantee zero.

Panicking after one missed answer

One missed question can cascade into five if you dwell on it. Accept the loss and re-focus on the next question set immediately.
